Track 2 (4.26 – 5.44) 25-05-78 stereo

Place: Courtyard of the funduk next to the Ghriba synagogue, Hara Sghira

Repertory: Rhythms performed on two darbūka s by two small boys

Scene: The Lag b’Omer festivities in the funduk are punctuated by spontaneous outburst of darbūka playing, sometimes accompanied by singing and dancing. This occurs most frequently in the mornings, when there are no formal activities and people have not yet arrived from their homes and hotels elsewhere on the island. Here, two men and a woman are dancing in the tight space left by the crowd. No-one is taking any notice of my recording activity.
