- Ethnographic context
- Sherpas love music. They dance and sing in groups on festival days. The Sherpa folk music is divided into four forms.
First of all, "Sharbulelu" (singing and dancing). It is the most attractive part of Sherpa traditional Music. Its melody is beautiful and its rhythm is clear. The dancing is elegant and attractive. It is accompanied by mouthorgan.
Secondly, "Jolu" (plaintive songs). It serves as a musical form for man to express his sadness and feeling of missing.
Furthermore, "Chalu" (singing in a sitting position). It is sung at home in daily life.
The last one, "Changselu" (singing at marriage). When performing, it is accompanied by certain rites. Different from the other forms of the Sherpa folk music, its rhythm is not clear and the melody is freer. Besides, it features reciting elements.
"Ji-bu-la", "Thinking the Favor of Parents". "Girls Do not Want to Leave Their Homeland", "Nian-zhe-lu-xie" and "Suo-nan-ba-zha-luo" are the Sherpas' folk songs.
