Ethnographic context
Throughout the long period of development, the Monpa people have created many good folk songs called "Sama" and "Jiagamu", which are elegant and beautiful with lyrical expression. The Monpa dance is simple yet powerful.

The opera is bold and unconstrained, obiously influenced by Tibetan opera and dance. But it still has its own charcateristics. The vocal part of opera was influenced by folk music. The Monpa opera "Nor-bzang" has the same story as that of the Tibetan opera "Prince Nor-bzang" (as seen in the album: "The Opera Music of Tibet").
