Morceau splendie de L'épopée du roi Gésar, enregistré à Lhasa, interprété par Yumei.
The name Gesar, was derived from the singing and telling of the Tibetan folk epic "King Gesar". It is a series of storyies about how Gesar, an ancient Tibetan legendary hero, subdued demons, fought bravely and saved the people.
"King Gesar", considered the longest epic in the world so far, is an important dorm of Tiberan ballad singing. Throughout its long period of spreading, it absorbed much to enrich itself from Tibetan fairy tales, folk songs and proverbs. Tibetan artists who perform "Gesar" are called "Zongke". The hats they wear for performing are decorated with thirteen kinds of bird-feathers. The story is told in monologue r dialogue, and the ballad-telling is accompanied by singing. For each hero in the story there is a corresponding vocal part in the opera; one vigorous and the other gentle.
