"Lamentation funèbre, aamamata, par Aaresi et Ii'eresi. Titre : Aamamata na Kaukauraro, "Lamentation [composée] par Kaukauraro.
Duo de femmes. Contrepoint à deux parties. La voix principale dénommée pau ni 'au, "tête de musique", ou pau ni nuuha, "tête de chant" (canal gauche de l'enregistrement), chante les paroles ; la seconde, aarita'i (canal droit), chante la bouche fermée ou entrouverte, prononçant la voyelle [e]. La forme de la pièce est ABAB CBCB, exécutée ici trois fois. Alors que la seconde voix reste entièrement dans le registre de tête, la voix principale chante seulement le segment A en voix de tête, les autres segments en voix de poitrine.
Les lamentations funèbres sont chantées lors d'un décès, et en souvenir du disparu.
Les paroles se réfèrent à une femme du nom de Pisini'a qui s'est noyée dans une rivière.

The principal voice is called pau ni'au "head of the music" or pau ni nuuha "head of the song" (left hand channel) and sings the words ; the second voice aarita'i (right hand channel) sings with closed or half-open mouth, upon the vowel [e]. The form of the piece is ABAB CBCB, performed three times here. While the second voice remains entirely in the head register, the principal voice only sings segment A in head voice, the other segments in chest voice.
Funeral laments are sung at the time of a death, and in memory of the departed.
The words refer to a woman called Pisini'a, who drowned herself in a river."
