"Chant de cour d'amour de la fête gerewol.
Choeur d'hommes et de femmes à l'unisson ou en quintes constituant un bourdon d'où émergent des formules en ostinato. L'émission de la voix, naturelle, est sous-tendue progressivement par des battements de main réguliers.
Lors de la fête annuelle du gerewol, les jeunes hommes, alignés sur un rang, exécutent une danse presque immobile, tout en chantant. Le chant s'interrompt régulièrement et les danseurs écarquillent les yeux pour les faire admirer et retroussent les lèvres pour montrer la blancheur éclatante de leurs dents. Aux spectateurs, sont mêlées des jeunes filles.
Les paroles du chant invitent les jeunes filles à choisir parmi les chanteurs un compagnon pour la nuit."

"Song of courtship from the fête gerewol.
Chorus of men and women at the unison or in fifths providing a drone from whence emerge some formulas in ostinato. The vocal emission, natural, is progressively accompanied by regular hand-clapping.
During the annual fête of the gerewol, the young men, aligned in one tank, perform an almost immobile dance, while singing. The song is interrupted regularly and the dancers stare about wild-eyed, so that they may be admired, and pull back their lips to show the astonishing whiteness of their teeth. Some girls are mingled among the spectators.
The words of the song invite the nubile girls to choose, from among the singers, a companion for the night."
