"Hoquet voco-instrumental, hindewhu.
Voix de femme et flûte en tige de papayer. Dans cette technique, la même personne alterne régulièrement un son sifflé avec des sons chantés, ici tous les degrés de la gamme pentatonique anhémitonique sont utilisés.
L'emploi d'intervalles disjoints et de la voix de tête, conjointement au changement continuel de timbre dû à l'alternance voix/flûte, apparente cette musique au yodel, par ailleurs connu des pygmées (cf. exemple sonore du disque III, plage 26).
Habituellement, les chasseurs se servent de cet instrument pour annoncer aux femmes et aux vieillards restés au campement leur retour d'une chasse fructueuse."

Woman's voice with flute of a pawpaw stem. In this technique, a person regularly alternates blown sounds with sung sounds. All the degrees of the anhemitonic pentatonic scale are used here.
The use of disjunct intervals and head voice, conjointly with continual changing of timbre, due to the alternance of voice and flute, relates this music to the yodel, which is also known among the pygmies (compare III.26).
Usually, hunters make use of this instrument to let the women and old persons who stayed in camp know of their return from a fruitful chase."
