"Voix du masque geeglu, "masque multiple".
Ce masque s'exprime par le jeu d'instruments sacrés : trois sifflets en pierre et un pot en terre cuite dans lequel un quatrième musicien souffle et chante. Ce pot sert d'amplicateur et de résonateur. Un cinquième homme chante d'une voix gutturale serrée (fry, à 037 et O47), caractéristique de ce type de masque. L'accompagnement est réalisé par des instruments de musique profanes (hochet-sonnaille et grelots en fer-blanc).
Selon les conceptions religieuses traditionnelles des Dan, les masques (gee) sont des êtres au pouvoir surnaturel. Le geeglu, l'un des masques les plus puissants, fait partie de la catégorie des "masques dénudés" (gee kpan) qui ne se manifestent que par la voix, et dont la vue est interdite aux femmes et aux garçons non-initiés."

This mask expresses itself through the sound of sacred instruments : three stone whistles and an earthenware pot in which a fourth musician blows and sings. This pot serves as amplier and resonator. A fifth man sings in a tightly guttural voice (fry, at 0'37 and 0'47), characteristic of this type of mask. The accompaniment is produced by profane musical instruments (rattle and pellet-bells of white-iron). See the sonagram, fig.9.
According to the traditional religious conceptions of the Dan, the masks (gee) are beings of supernatural power. The
Geeglu, one of the most powerful masks, is in the category of "denuded masks" (gee kpan) which only manifest themselves by the voice, and seeing them is forbidden to women and non-initiated boys."
