"THE RECORDING
An Anthology of Kazakh Epic Songs and Dombra Kyuis :
Studio-recorded in 1990 in St. Petersburg, Russia, this musical anthology presents the sounds of traditionnal Kazakh sung narrative and instrumental programmatic pieces to a new audience. Listeners are introduced to the classical arts of three Kazakh epic singers of tales, and also to the art of the kyuishi, a distinguished performer on the dombra, a plucked longnecked lute of the Kazakhs.
THE VIDEO
A jourdney to Epic Qyzylorda - Three Kazakh Jyraus :
This fieldwork video, recorded by Alma Kunanbaeva in 2001, includes the art of three oustanding epic bards, Shamshat Tölepova and Bidas Rustembekov of Qyzylorda, and Rysbek Ashimov of Aralsk. The video was made in a traditional Kazakh yurt, with the best musicians of the Syrdarya region attending."
