- A Ceriana, un village situé à l'est de la Ligurie (versant sud des Alpes italiennes), les gens ont une véritable passion pour le chant. On dénombre pas moins de cinq chorales dont la Compagnia Sacco. Fondée en 1926, elle est engagée dans la préservation de la polyphonie traditionnelle.
Le point de départ : Alan Lomax, éthnomusicologue américain a fait des enregistrements sonores à Ceriana en 1954. Par la suite, il a invité la Compagnia Sacco aux États-Unis en 1975. Cette tournée d'un mois en Amérique fut l'occasion pour la chorale d'acquérir une réputation internationale. Par ailleurs, contrairement à d'autres chorales de la région, les membres de la Compagnia Sacco ne chantent pas sous la direction d'un chef d'orchestre et ne se limitent à donner des concerts et à produire des CD; ils ont aussi beaucoup de plaisir à chanter avec des amis lors de festivités locales, perpétuant ainsi la pratique du chant traditionnel villageois.
in Ceriana, a village in West liguria (on the southern slopes of the italian Alps), people love to sing. There are five choirs whose the Compagnia Sacco. Founded in 1926, it is engaged in the preservation of the traditional drone polyphony. At the beginning, the american etnhomusicologist Alan Lomax made sound recordings in Ceriana in 1954. Then, he invited the Compagnia Sacco in 1975 to the USA. This one-month tour in America was the starting point for its international reputation. However, unlike other choirs of the region, the members of The Compagnia Sacco do not sing under the direction of a conductor and do not limit themselves to giving concerts and producing CDs; they also enjoy very much singing together with friends at many local festivities, perpetuating the practice of singing traditional village. - Record writer
