- [Notes en anglais de Ruth Davis :] Track 2 (7.04 –30.25) 31-05-78 mono Place: Room in singer’s home in Hara Kebira. Repertory: Israeli folk songs and piyyutim to biblical, liturgical and secular texts. Perfomer: young girl aged 19 These songs are sung by girls and young unmarried women during their ceremonies for Sabbath and religious festivals, when recording is not allowed. The girls hold the ceremonies in the girls' school where they receive a modern secular Hebrew education. My friend first sang to me while she was cleaning dishes on the kitchen floor and agreed to be recorded. Apart from some initial shyness she sang without inhibition and with obvious enjoyment. We agreed to make another recording with some of her friends so that they could prompt one another (tape DJ13).
