"Chant du répertoire yangango, interprété pendant les récoltes.
De forme antiphonale, en tuilage, ces chants font intervenir deux choeurs, l'un d'hommes et l'autre de femmes, qui se répondent à l'octave. L'exécution de la mélodie laisse apparaître des variantes individuelles. Le caractère hétérophonique qui en découle est reconnu et valorisé, et concourt à la puissance de l'ensemble.
Ce répertoire de chants est interprété de nuit sur la place du village où les jeunes hommes dansent en se tenant par les épaules et en se balançant doucement devant les femmes qui leur répondent en les provoquant. Ces chants préparent à la vie au village : les champs vont être abandonnés, les récoltes se terminant et étant engrangées dans les greniers des maisonnées.
Les paroles des chants évoquent surtout le rapprochement entre jeunes qui se comparent respectivement à des antilopes, mâles et femelles, rivalisant de beauté."

"Song of the yangango repertoire, performed during harvest-time.
In antiphonal form, overlapping, these songs bring two choruses together, one of men and the other women, who respond one to the other at the octave. The performance of the melody allows indivual variants to a pear. The heterophonic character which results is recognised and valued, and contributes to the power of the ensemble.
This song repertoire is performed at night in the village square where young men dance holding cach other by the shoulder while gently swaying in front of the women who respond by provoking them. These songs prepare village life : the fi
elds are going to be let fallow, the harvesting ends and is stored in the household granaries.
The words of the songs recall above all the connexions between young people who compare themselves respectively to antelopes, males and females, rivals in beauty."
