"Chant et vièle, par Mahamat Chaïmi. Titre : Béla (nom d'une femme).
En même temps qu'il joue de la vièle monocorde, le musicien chante en voix de fausset, sans vibrato, à l'unisson avec l'instrument qu'il imite. La corde de la vièle est constituée d'une simple mèche de crin peu tendue qui rend possible le vibrato.
Répertoire joué dans l'intimité par les hommes exclusivement.
Le chant évoque la beauté d'une femme et l'atmosphère heureuse des villages par opposition avec les difficultés des longs déplacements dans le désert."

At the same time as he plays the onestring fiddle, the musician sings in falsetto, without vibrato, in unison with the instrument he is imitating. The fiddles string is a tuft of horsehair under weak tension, making vibrato impossible.
A repertoire played in intimate circumstances, only by men.
The song treats of the beauty of a woman and the happy atmosphere of the villages, by contrast with the hardships of long travels in the desert."
