"Solo de flûte narh avec bourdon vocal par Sherha Mahamad, de la communauté des Sindhi Sipahi.
L'instrument, fait dans une variété de canne kar, a 64 cm de long et quatre trous de jeu. L'embouchure terminale, cerclée de métal, présente une arête sur laquelle s'exerce le souffle du joueur qui tient sa flûte en position oblique. Le bourdon, nari, émis par la gorge, est accordé sur la tonique de la pièce. Le musicien en varie l'intensité avec celle de la mélodie. Il peut également alterner les sons de la flûte et du bourdon avec son chant, tout comme jouer sans bourdon.
Dans le désert de Thar ainsi qu'au Pakistan voisin, le narh est joué à des fi
ns religieuses ou festives (mariage, naissance) par des non-professionnels appartenant à des communautés de Fakirs. Il accompagne aussi un répertoire de ballades, vait, ressortant de la tradition soufi"

"Solo on the narh flute, with vocal drone, by Sherha Mahamad, of the community of the Sindhi Sipahi.
The instrument, made from a variety of cane called kar, is 64 cm long with four fi
nger holes. The embouchure, encircled with metal, has an edge upon which the player blows, holding the instrument obliquely. The drone, nari, comes from the throat, and is in tune with the tonic of the piece. The musician varies its volume with that of the melody ; he can also alternate the sounds of the flute and the drone with singing, or lay without vocal drone.
En the Thar desert, as well as in neighbouring Pakistan, the narh is played for religious or festive purposes (marriages, births) by non-professionals, who belong to Fakir communities. 1t also accompanies a ballad-repertoire, vait, belonging to the Sufi
