"The Music of Indonesia" recording series is a project of the society for Indonesian Performing Arts (Masyarakat Seni Pertunjukan Indonesia, or MSPI) and the center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage of the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, D.C.). It is funded by a grant from the Ford foundation. The entire series consists of twenty volumes of musical recordings, made between 1990 and 1997 in twenty-two provinces of Indonesia.
