"Chant de chamane par Lola Kiepja, l'une des dernières survivantes du groupe Selk'nam.
Chant solo de femme. Les formes vocales selk'nam alternent généralement des parties parlées dont les paroles ont un sens et des parties parlées-chantées (sprechgesang) construites sur des syllabes sans signification. Le style vocal se caractérise ici, entre autres, par l'importance des accents ampli
fiés par l'expiration, par la présence d'une pulsation, par l'uniformité des durées des syllabes, et surtout le timbre. Le système sonore met en correspondance les différents degrés de la mélodie avec des sonorités spécifi
ques liées à l'émission de certaines voyelles."

"Shamans song, by Lola Kiepja, one of the last survivors of the Sellïnam group.
Woman's solo song. The vocal forms of the Selk'nam generaly have alternated sections, some where the words have sense, and some in sprechgesang ("spoken - sung") consisting of nonsense syllables. Among things which typify the vocal style are the importance of accents amplifi
ed by expiration, the presence of pulsation, the uniformity of syllabic duration, and above all the timbre. The sonic system puts the different degrees of the melody in correspondence with specifi
c sonorities according to the vowels uttered. A Selk'nam song is made by combinig rhytmic, melodic and textual elements."
